Relaunched, Re-platformed, Re-ranked: How nike.in Reached 1.7M Monthly Organic Visits After Its Relaunch

Where they started

The Challenge

In early 2026, Nike handed its India online store to Nykaa and relaunched nike.in. Within months, the relaunched store reached 1.7M organic visits a month from 60.5K keywords, growing 9% month on month. Our review shows what's driving that growth and where rankings are still leaking.

About nike.in

nike.in is Nike's official online store for India, selling shoes, clothing and gear in rupees with free shipping on every order. Since February 2026 it has been operated by Nykaa, while Nike continues to run its own physical stores (Inc42).

The relaunch changed a lot for shoppers:

  • Faster delivery: about two days in metro cities and up to four days elsewhere, replacing shipments from a single hub in Singapore.
  • Simpler returns: free exchanges on the same product.
  • Features removed: Nike Member logins, "Nike By You" customisation and the SNKRS web platform were discontinued in India.

Every one of those changes touched URLs, page templates or content, which makes nike.in a live example of SEO during a re-platform.

The Challenge

Nike is one of the most-searched brands in India, yet its own store doesn't automatically win those searches.

  • Marketplaces compete for "nike" searches. Myntra, Amazon, Ajio, Flipkart and now Nykaa all list Nike products, and each can outrank the brand on product and category terms.
  • Rival brands. Adidas, Puma, Skechers, ASICS and New Balance fight for generic terms such as "running shoes for men" and "sports shoes".
  • A full re-platform. A new operator, new templates and removed features (SNKRS, Nike By You, Member logins) put old URLs and backlinks at risk.
  • Trust to rebuild. Inc42 reports a history of delivery delays, failed checkouts and slow refunds before the relaunch. Reviews and brand searches reflect that.

What Works

nike.in gets the fundamentals that matter most for an e-commerce brand right: a clear category structure, intent-matched hubs and an unbeatable brand.

  1. Category architecture that mirrors search
    • Men, Women and Kids each break down into Shoes, Clothing, Accessories and Shop by Sport, matching how Indians search ("nike shoes for men", "nike running shoes").
    • Sport hubs for Running, Gym & Training, Football and Basketball capture activity-led searches.
  2. Price- and trend-led landing pages
    • "Top Picks Under ₹4999" targets budget-qualified searches that marketplaces usually win.
    • Trending collections such as Retro Running and All Conditions Gear give the site fresh, linkable pages.
  3. Local signals
    • Rupee pricing, an India-specific H1 ("Nike Official Online Store India") and a meta description promising free shipping.
    • A clean self-referencing canonical on the homepage.
  4. Brand demand
    • Being the official store is a ranking and click-through advantage no reseller can copy, as long as the site makes that obvious in titles and snippets.

What we changed

The Solution

The Results

The relaunched nike.in is growing fast: 1.7M monthly organic visits (+9% MoM) from 60.5K keywords (+11% MoM). Semrush shows almost no history before the relaunch, so nearly all of this visibility was built in 2026.

  • Organic carries the store. Organic search brings about 40 times more visits than paid search (1.7M vs. 42.8K), and paid traffic fell 5.9% this month.
  • Brand demand, plus real non-brand reach. 772K visits come from branded searches. The other roughly 960K come from generic searches such as shoes, sportswear and running gear.
  • Rich results are starting to appear. 1,207 keywords trigger AI Overviews and 3,422 show other SERP features; 92.4% of positions are standard organic listings.
  • Biggest opportunity: page two. 12,834 keywords rank in positions 11–20. Moving even a share of them onto page one is the fastest route to more traffic.

Visible Where Shoppers Ask AI

nike.in earns 2.3K AI-search mentions, almost all from India, with 1.3K of its pages cited.

  • Strong at home. India has an AI Visibility score of 71 and 2.3K mentions; Germany and Canada score just 14.
  • ChatGPT cites product pages most. ChatGPT cites 718 pages, while Gemini mentions the brand 525 times but cites only 98. Clearer product content and schema would close that gap.
  • Resellers fill the gap. In US AI answers the top cited sources are shopatkings.com, youtube.com and thatfitfriend.com, not nike.in.

Where It Could Improve

Growth is strong, but our review of the live homepage found eight fixable issues that cap it. The first three hold back product rankings the most, and fixing them is how the 12.8K page-two keywords move up.

Issue found

Why it matters

Fix

Product cards and "Can't-Miss Deals" link back to the homepage

Product pages lose internal links and crawl priority

Link every card to its product URL

No product schema; ratings show ★ 0.0 (0)

No price, stock or star-rating rich results in Google

Add Product, Offer and AggregateRating schema; collect reviews

Tracking parameters (ptype, transaction_id, intcmp) in internal links

Many duplicate URLs for one page waste crawl budget

Strip parameters from internal links; canonicalise the rest

Old Nike URLs from before the relaunch

Removed SNKRS, Nike By You and member pages may now 404

Map and 301-redirect legacy URLs to the closest live page

og:locale set to en-GB, no hreflang

Mixed signals about which country the store serves

Set en-IN and add hreflang

Generic homepage title

"Nike. Just Do It. Nike IN" misses "shoes" and "official store"

e.g. "Nike India Official Store: Shoes, Clothing & Gear"

Product images served from Nykaa domains

Image search credit and speed depend on a third-party host

Serve images from a nike.in subdomain or CDN alias

Pinch-zoom disabled (maximum-scale=1)

Accessibility issue on mobile, where most Indian shoppers browse

Remove the zoom limit

Findings come from the public homepage on 12 October 2026; a full crawl would size each issue.

Lessons for E-commerce Brands

Brand strength wins the click, but site structure decides how much of that demand you keep from marketplaces.

  1. Treat a re-platform as an SEO project. Redirect every legacy URL before launch, not after rankings drop.
  2. Link to your products. Homepage and promo blocks should pass authority to real product URLs.
  3. Earn rich results. Product and review schema make a listing stand out next to marketplaces.
  4. Keep URLs clean. Track campaigns in analytics, not in internal links.
  5. Say "official". Titles and snippets that say "official store" beat resellers on trust.
